Apprenticeships

What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to earn money while you learn. As an apprentice, you will receive on the job training and support to develop the skills you need to succeed in your chosen industry. Unlike academic courses at university or college, an Apprenticeship allows you to achieve nationally recognised qualifications at your place of work. You will be assigned to a dedicated Trainer Assessor who will visit you to observe your work and give you advice on how to get the most from your Apprenticeship.

Depending on your chosen job sector, you may also need to visit a Skills Training UK learning centre one day a week or as part of a block release. Just like a normal employee, you will be paid for both time spent training and time spent 'on the job', as well as receive holiday entitlement from your employer.

An Apprenticeship programme is for at least 12 months and each Apprenticeship is comprised of Functional Skills, a Technical Certificate and a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). There are Intermediate (Level 2), Advanced (Level 3) and Higher (Level 4) Apprenticeships.

We have now also opened a state of the art Skills Training UK Academy for Business, Industry and Technology in Wolverhampton.

Why should I do an Apprenticeship?

"Trainees and apprentices enhance their skills and increase their employment prospects." - Ofsted, 2017

Apprenticeships give you the skills you need to succeed, whatever your chosen industry.

The biggest benefit of an Apprenticeship is that you can earn while you learn. You don't have to wait until you are qualified to start a new career - instead, your employer will give you the help and support you need to move up the career ladder whilst gaining nationally-recognised qualifications.

An Apprenticeship allows you to learn industry-specific skills and to acquire 'real' knowledge and experience that will make you stand out from the crowd. As an apprentice, you are treated just like a normal employee and are entitled to a salary and paid holidays, with the added benefit of 'on the job' training and development.

More and more employers are also recognising the benefits of Apprenticeship training for their current staff. There is more information about our bespoke training and Apprenticeships for employee teams on our For Employers pages.
