Apprenticeships with Skills Training UK increase Lindab’s output

Lindab Ltd, a leading manufacturer of indoor climate products, has increased output and productivity as a result of apprenticeship training in Business Improvement Techniques (BIT), Team Leading and Management with Skills Training UK.

In the BIT apprenticeship training, employees developed their knowledge in areas including organisational safety, effective team working, visual management systems and continuous improvement techniques. They learned how to apply the Japanese Kaizen approach to problem solving and process improvement and in the second half their training completed three workplace related projects on Quality, Cost and Delivery, which led to the improved levels of output and productivity.

The three projects enabled employees to identify reductions they could make in the distance they travelled from one part of the production facility to another. In a simple restructure two workstations were relocated to make the efficiency saving. Ben Naylor, Production Operative, comments: “This may seem like a small change, but over the days and weeks, all of that time adds up, it has made a huge difference in our everyday work.”
