What to expect

  • Skills Training UK schedule sessions around shift patterns and night shifts.

  • We can re-arrange sessions to avoid busy periods or unanticipated events.

  • One-on-one sessions at any stage of the training can be arranged for individuals who cannot make a group session due to work conflicts.

  • Our learning materials are high quality and are based on the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing which can be co-branded with any employer.

  • We include individual assessment and development of Maths and English skills. Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1 are required.

  • Employees work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Certificate in Warehousing and Storage (CWS).

How does the training work?

In order to achieve the NVQ Certificate in Warehousing and Storage employees must complete both units from Group A, two units from Group B, one each from groups C, D, E and any from group F.

  • Group A mandatory units

    • Health, safety and security at work

    • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues

  • Group B options

    • Pick goods

    • Wrap and pack goods

    • Place goods in storage

    • Process orders for customers

    • Assemble orders for dispatch

  • Group C options

    • Maintain the cleanliness of equipment

    • Keep work areas clean

    • Maintain hygiene standards in handling and storing goods

  • Group D options

    • Moving and/or handling goods

    • Use equipment to move goods

    • Use a forklift side-loader

    • Use an industrial forklift truck

    • Use a hoist

    • Use a compact crane

  • Group E options

    • Keep stock at required levels

    • Check stock levels and stock records

  • Group F options

    • Operate equipment to perform work requirements

    • Receive goods

    • Maintain the safety and security of hazardous goods and materials

    • Process returned goods

    • Sort goods and materials for recycling or disposal

    • Supervise the receipt, storage and dispatch of goods

    • Contribute to the provision of customer service

    • Principles of food safety

Assessment

Assessment takes place in the workplace, with employees carrying out their normal tasks to demonstrate their competence

Each employee develops a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates they can perform at the level described. Employees will have a Trainer Assessor who will assist in the preparation of the portfolio.
