Employers highlight benefits of Apprenticeships during National Apprenticeships Week

Employers have spoken of the benefits of running successful Apprenticeship programmes with Skills Training UK – helping to drive efficiency, improve productivity and upskill their workforce.

It comes at the start of the 11th National Apprenticeship Week, during which employers and apprentices from across England will celebrate the success of apprenticeships in training new recruits and upskilling employees.

Skills Training UK is a leading independent Apprenticeships provider with a proven track record of forging successful partnerships with employers to co-design and deliver bespoke training programmes. This employer-centric approach has led to a raft of benefits for employers, including increased productivity, better efficiency and a more confident, highly skilled workforce.

Xaar plc, a global leader in the development of digital inkjet technology and manufacturer of industrial printheads, has saved around £380,000 a year as a result of upskilling employees in Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) Apprenticeships co-developed with Skills Training UK. Staff also said they felt more motivated as a result of the training.

Graham Tweedale, Director of Operations, Xaar plc said: “Skills Training UK made a real difference to our workforce and productivity and we were proud to nominate them for SEMTA’s Training Provider of the Year Award.”

Levy paying employer The Bristol Port Company enrolled 40 of its staff on Level 3 Management, Level 3 Business Administration and Level 2 Team Leading Apprenticeships with Skills Training UK – including several more experienced members of its workforce.

Training Manager at The Bristol Port Company, Nick Venn, said: “Our teams are working aboard ships and down in ships’ hulls – so we need a strong workforce that is confident in its ability and really understands its various roles. That’s especially true for supervisors and team leaders.

“The apprenticeships dovetailed with our business objectives and in partnership with the trainer assessors we were able to create a bespoke programme that was directly relevant to our workforce. As a result, we’ve been able to see big improvements and some real benefits. The feedback has been very positive.”

Employers value and embrace Skills Training UK’s market knowledge and management expertise in designing and delivering Apprenticeship training to increase the skills and competencies of existing and new employees.

Teams of trainer-assessors are selected for each employer client based on their industry-relevant experience, so they understand the market issues and can quickly immerse themselves, understand the culture and goals and tailor appropriate Apprenticeships programmes which deliver real return on investment. Skills Training UK excels in partnership working and can bring in other expertise or work alongside other training providers if needed.

Stephen Crawley, Skills Director, Skills Training UK, said: “Once we understand our client’s needs, we then create a flexible and bespoke package that aligns with a company’s business objectives and leads to a real return on investment.

“The feedback we receive from our clients and the skills-growth we see within their workforce is a real credit to the programmes that we deliver”

Skills Training UK designs and delivers Apprenticeship programmes for both levy-paying and non-levy paying employers, offering a tailored approach which can combine a range of training, for example in business skills, quality and improvement, management and leadership, digital and IT.
