Free Open Days for young people to explore post-16 options
October 31st, 2018
Young people are invited to explore their post-16 options at free Open Days at Skills Training UK’s five training centres across the country next month.
The Open Days are a great opportunity for young people to meet their local Skills Training UK team, take a tour around the training centre, and take part in some fun activities with new friends. There will be free refreshments and there is no need to book a place – just drop in on the day.
Brighton – Tuesday, 6 Nov, 3pm-6pm
Ealing – Wednesday 7 Nov, 3pm-6pm
Wembley – Wednesday 14 Nov, 3pm-6pm
Walsall – Thursday 15 Nov, 3pm-6pm
Dudley – Tuesday 20 Nov, 2.30pm-5.30pm
There is a wide range of post-16 options available for school leavers who want to pursue an alternative route to traditional college or sixth form. Skills Training UK offers Traineeships and vocational qualifications up to Level 2, in subjects such as Customer Service, Business Enterprise, and Warehousing and Storage, which help young people to take their first step on the career ladder.
Through a mix of classroom-based learning and practical work experience placements with an employer, learners are supported to achieve vocational qualifications and skills which will help them to reach their next level of study, an Apprenticeship, or a full-time job. Tutors also support with CV writing and interview techniques, and can help young people work towards GCSE Grade 4 equivalent qualifications in English and maths if not already held.
Asiya Begum completed a Traineeship at Skills Training UK’s Walsall Centre where, after impressing her tutors, she now works as a full-time administrator.
Asiya said: “It was much better than sixth form. My tutors were very supportive, and I really liked the nice working environment.”
