Young people in West London celebrate career achievements at Skills Training UK
December 19th, 2017
Young people from West London who have turned their lives around with the help of independent training provider Skills Training UK, were welcomed at Ealing Town Hall for a special celebration.
The event marked the achievements of over 50 young learners from Skills Training UK’s Wembley, Ealing and Hounslow centres, whilst also recognising the successful partnerships with local businesses and support agencies.
The young learners, aged 16 to 24, were presented with certificates to acknowledge their progress on Skills Training UK’s Traineeship and Study Programmes, where they have achieved employability skills, qualifications in English and maths, and have undertaken vital work placements with local employers.
Guests were also treated to special performances throughout the event, as some of the learners took to the stage to showcase their talents including video poetry and Afro-beats/ Bollywood dancing.
Many of the learners arrive at Skills Training UK with low confidence and some have faced challenging circumstances in their personal lives but, with 1-2-1 support, they are able to progress onto an Apprenticeship, college or full-time employment.
18-year-old Tudor Mihai Ladaru spoke at the event about his journey: “Skills Training UK has helped me prepare for my future, from teaching me interview skills, presentation skills and showing me how to go and look for a job.”
Tudor, who attends Skills Training UK’s Wembley Centre, was presented with the award for ‘Most Improved Learner’. The special recognition award was one of several presented to learners on the day, including achievements for Employer Feedback and Highest Achievement.
The event also included words of encouragement from Jamaican rap singer and music producer FRASS, as well as motivational speaker and entrepreneur Ola Yusef, who has been running business workshops for learners at the Skills Training UK centres in London.
Speaking at the event, Ola Yusef said: “Surround yourself with people who want to help you build your future and don’t ever give up on your dreams.”
Skills Training UK’s training centres in Ealing, Wembley and Hounslow have close links with local employers, schools, authorities and other agencies, including housing and health. These local partnerships ensure the hardest to reach young people are given a chance to take their first steps towards employment or continued learning.
Some of these partners were also presented awards at the event for helping support some of the young learners first steps into employment.
Graham Clarke, Development Director at Skills Training UK, said: “We are very proud to celebrate the positive progress that all of our learners have made since joining our Traineeship programmes. It’s fantastic to see how far they have come and how much they have achieved in such a short space of time. We wish everyone the best of luck as they embark on the next steps in their careers.”
