Halfords Traineeship helps Dan get in gear
Name: Dan Collin
Area: Margate, Kent
Skills Training UK programme: Traineeship for Retail
Dan Collin joined Skills Training UK’s Halfords Traineeship in March 2016 after being recruited through his local Jobcentre. The 22-year-old had been brought up in foster care and was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. He had previously found it difficult to find regular, paid employment as a young adult and found himself moving from job to job with little security.
After enrolling on a Traineeship with Skills Training UK he started a four-week work placement at Halfords in Margate, Kent. He was soon offered a full-time post as a sales assistant and has seen his role grow to include bicycle safety checks and basic repairs.
“It’s been great. I’ve gained in confidence and I’ve now got the motivation to prove myself and push on. “Skills Training UK has been incredibly supportive and it’s reassuring to know that I’ve now got the opportunity to build a career and progress.” – Dan Collin, former Traineeship learner
“Skills Training UK has been great. The trainees were engaged right from the start and Dan quickly felt like part of the team. As a company, it’s a win win situation – not only does the candidate get great experience and the chance to see what it’s like to work for us, we have an opportunity to support the younger generation and offer them a permanent role.” – David Marsh, Store Manager, Halfords in Margate
